When we created our Skin x Bones Body Butter, we wanted more than a moisturizer. We wanted a ritual: one rooted in nature, crafted with ingredients that have been treasured for generations, and made without unnecessary fillers.

Every jar is whipped by hand using rich botanical oils and butters chosen for their ability to nourish, protect, and restore thirsty skin. But beyond what they do, we also love where they come from. Many of these ingredients have deep cultural histories and are still harvested by the communities that have cared for them for centuries.

Let's take a closer look at what's inside.

Raw Shea Butter

Origin: Northern Ghana, Burkina Faso & West Africa

Raw shea butter is the heart of our body butter.

Harvested from the nuts of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), shea butter has been used for centuries to protect skin from harsh climates while deeply moisturizing and soothing irritation.

Unlike refined shea butter, raw shea retains its naturally occurring vitamins and fatty acids, making it incredibly nourishing for dry or damaged skin.

Why we love it:

  • Rich in Vitamins A & E

  • Deeply moisturizes without feeling greasy

  • Helps improve skin elasticity

  • Softens rough elbows, knees, hands, and feet

Every jar begins with this luxurious butter.

Virgin Coconut Oil

Origin: Philippines

Virgin coconut oil is cold-pressed from fresh coconuts rather than dried coconut meat, preserving its naturally occurring antioxidants and fatty acids.

It's famous for creating incredibly soft skin while helping lock in moisture after bathing.

Why we love it:

  • Naturally rich in lauric acid

  • Helps reduce moisture loss

  • Leaves skin feeling silky smooth

  • Gives the butter its beautiful glide

Its subtle tropical aroma also pairs beautifully with warm vanilla and spicy clove.

Cold-Pressed Argan Oil

Origin: Southwestern Morocco

Often called "liquid gold," argan oil comes from the kernels of the ancient argan tree found almost exclusively in Morocco.

For generations, Berber women have harvested and processed these kernels by hand.

Cold-pressing preserves the delicate nutrients that make argan oil one of the world's most celebrated skincare oils.

Why we love it:

  • Rich in Vitamin E

  • Packed with antioxidants

  • Absorbs quickly

  • Leaves skin supple without clogging pores

Golden Jojoba Oil

Origin: Arizona, California & Northern Mexico

Technically, jojoba isn't an oil at all—it's a liquid wax remarkably similar to the natural oils our skin produces.

That similarity makes it one of the most balancing moisturizers available.

Golden jojoba is the least processed form, retaining its beautiful golden color and natural nutrients.

Why we love it:

  • Lightweight and fast absorbing

  • Helps balance skin's natural oils

  • Supports healthy skin barrier function

  • Suitable for nearly every skin type

Pure Vitamin E

Origin: Commonly sourced from soybeans or sunflowers grown throughout North

America and Europe

Vitamin E has earned its place as one of skincare's most beloved antioxidants.

Beyond helping condition skin, it also helps protect the delicate botanical oils in our body butter, extending freshness naturally.

Why we love it:

  • Powerful antioxidant

  • Supports healthy-looking skin

  • Helps soften scars and dry patches

  • Helps maintain product freshness

Carrot Seed Oil

Origin: France & India

Distilled from the seeds of the wild carrot plant, carrot seed oil has been prized in botanical skincare for generations.

It's rich in naturally occurring antioxidants that help support healthy, radiant skin.

Why we love it:

  • Supports skin renewal

  • Rich in antioxidants

  • Helps improve the appearance of dry, dull skin

  • Adds depth to our botanical blend

Despite its name, it doesn't smell like carrots. Instead, it has a warm, earthy aroma that complements the richer notes in our formula.

Tea Tree Oil

Origin: Australia

Tea tree oil comes from the leaves of the Australian tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia).

Long used by Indigenous Australians, it's one of nature's most recognizable botanical oils.

We use it in a carefully balanced amount to help create a fresh, clean feeling on the skin.

Why we love it:

  • Refreshing botanical aroma

  • Naturally cleansing

  • Helps leave skin feeling balanced

  • Pairs beautifully with clove

Clove Essential Oil

Origin: Madagascar & Indonesia

Warm, rich, and unmistakably comforting, clove essential oil has been treasured in herbal traditions around the world.

Steam-distilled from dried flower buds, it gives our body butter its signature cozy warmth.

Why we love it:

  • Warm, nostalgic aroma

  • Rich in naturally occurring antioxidants

  • Adds a comforting sensory experience

  • Clove oil acts as a natural antifungal and antibacterial ingredient

Vanilla Essential Oil

Origin: Madagascar

Madagascar produces some of the world's most prized vanilla.

Its soft, creamy aroma balances the spice of clove while adding warmth and familiarity that feels both luxurious and comforting.

Why we love it:

  • Soft, calming scent

  • Perfectly complements clove

  • Creates an inviting daily ritual

  • Turns moisturizing into a moment of self-care

More Than Moisture

Our Skin x Bones Body Butter was never meant to be just another lotion.

It's a blend of ingredients grown across Africa, Morocco, Australia, Madagascar, the Philippines, Europe, and North America, each selected because generations of people trusted them long before modern skincare existed.

No unnecessary fillers or shortcuts. We prefer rich botanical ingredients whipped into a luxurious body butter that melts into your skin and leaves behind lasting hydration and the comforting scent of clove and vanilla.

Because skincare should feel intentional, every ingredient should earn its place, and every time you open the jar, you should know exactly what you're putting on your skin, and the journey it took to get there.
